This week saw the start of the Elite Insurance Under-18s Sevens Series as well as the continuation of the Under-13 Series with the Buckinghamshire leg of this year’s competition.
After having to unfortunately postpone the Northamptonshire region’s tournament on Tuesday due to waterlogged pitches, the first Under-18s element of this year’s Elite Insurance Sevens Series got underway at Cambridge RUFC with schools from across the Eastern Counties.
On a wet Wednesday afternoon, the competition was fierce and while Moulton College’s first team progressed through to the semi-final stage of the Cup competition with ease alonsige The Perse School, Hills Road and Ipswich School had to fight hard for their spots.
The same was true of the Plate semi-final qualification, with West Suffolk, Culford, Welbeck and Sam Whitbread schools all having to fight it out for their spots.
Moulton College took a convincing win over Hills Road to progress to the Cup Final with Ipswich soon following them after a tighter win over The Perse School.
Meanwhile in the Plate, Culford and Welbeck had won their respective semi-finals and progressed through to the final stage.
Two hard-fought games of Sevens rugby ensued, Welbeck School narrowly collecting the Plate title before Moulton College secured victory over Ipswich to win the Cup.
Wednesday saw the return of the Under-13s competition as the Buckinghamshire leg got underway at Stowe School.
With the sun reinstated, eight schools took part in this region’s tournaments with Aylesbury Grammar School and Quinton House School finishing top of the play-off pools to progress through to Final’s Day at Franklin’s Gardens in April.
The next Elite Insurance Sevens tournament takes place at Bedford Athletic RFC on March 21st with eight schools from across Bedfordshire competing for two tickets through to the Finals Day on April 27th.
